With a background in dancing & pageantry, our gorgeous bride, Carin looked incredible wearing a sophisticated makeup look, emphasizing her natural beauty. I took extra care to keep her makeup very clean & precise, & our team was especially excited to show off her beautiful hair by giving her a sexy, loose curl (which paired perfectly with the elegant neckline of her dress). Carin is undeniably beautiful & her bridal party was one of the most fun groups we've had the pleasure of doing makeup for! Leave it to wedding planner, Maria Socha from Sealed With A Kiss to coordinate a stunning wedding featuring bold red bridesmaids gowns & elegant white flowers amidst the gorgeous backdrop of Hotel Albuquerque. & thank goodness for the immeasurably talented Tony Gambino for capturing it all!
Here are some of our favorite images from the Anniversary photo session we did at the end of August. Take a peek inside the beautiful new chapel at Hyatt Regency Albuquerque Downtown. Groom's attire by Suits Unlimited Models: Emilia and Konrad.
For this photo shoot I paired bold, elegant makeup with classic, romantic hair. I wanted to make sure that Emily's makeup was noticeable enough to stand up to the beauty of the landscape & the bright, outdoor lighting. Then, I selected the hairstyle with her gorgeous hair in mind. I wanted to simultaneously emphasize the beauty of Emily's hair while allowing it to flow softly in the gentle breezes of our lovely New Mexico landscape. I hope you all enjoy these photos as much as I do & maybe this hair & makeup will give you a little inspiration for your own wedding day or photo session. :) Hair & Makeup: C. Johnson Makeup

We have wonderful, exciting news! We now have a physical location where we are able to host our bridal preview sessions, group makeup lessons, beauty classes, & makeup parties for special events. Our space is well-lit & spacious, with plenty of natural light, which we all know is essential to a superb makeup application. I also purchased studio lighting, similar to what you might find in a photographer's set up, for those cloudy days when we'll need the supplemental light.
Our walls are adorned with canvases from some of our favorite photo shoots that we've done (these canvases are from Blue Rose Photography).
We'd love to have some visitors & our space is open by appointment only. Contact us today to set up an appointment - we'd love to see you!

Recently, we had a hair/makeup session with Mikaela. Here are some photos of our process & the final result.
We started by curling her hair & pinning it up to cool. We used a 1.5 inch curling wand & a light hold hairspray. Pinning it up to cool helps the hair hold the curl for as long as possible - it also gets the hair off of her face so that we can move on to makeup. Scroll down for a complete list of products used.
For Mikaela's foundation we used Lorac #'s 3, 4, & 5 to provide a flawless coverage & to highlight & contour her face simultaneously. We used MAC's Pro Longwear concealer to hide any imperfections. We set the foundation with a translucent-light setting powder. Mac matte bronze to set the contour under her cheekbones, Alexis Vogel radiant blush in the shade "Tipsy", & Becca Highlighter in the shade "Moonstone".
For Mikaela's lip color, we used Alexis Vogel's lip stain in the color "Barely" & a clear gloss.
The eyeshadow colors we choose came from Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette. MAC's Fluidline in BlackTrack. Ardell's 110 lashes & Covergirl Lashblast mascara. To help frame her eyes, we used Anastasia Beverly Hill's DipBrow eyebrow pomade in the shade "Taupe" to lightly fill in & shape her eyebrows.

We absolutely loved working with this naturally beautiful bride. In preparation for her wedding day, we provided her with a hair & makeup trial on the day of her engagement photo shoot. Any good photographer will tell you that a professional makeup application is critical for excellent photos, even if the desired look is very natural. A good photo-ready makeup application should obscure any dark shadows, highlight the cheekbones, and emphasize the eyes. We always lightly fill in the eyebrows & add some color to the cheeks because bright lighting & camera flash can cause the natural color in our faces to become washed out. We wanted this gorgeous girl's natural beauty to shine through & we made sure to highlight all of her best features (Hello BOMBSHELL EYELASHES!).
Isn't this a gorgeous family? We are so excited to see them get married & to be part of their wedding day.

First of all, can I just say... Victoria & Peter, C. Johnson Makeup's newest clients are the nicest couple. EVER. Just so so nice. Anyway, now that I've gotten that off of my chest, let's talk about the makeup. Victoria has such a lovely bone structure & a great natural eyebrow shape. I filled in the brows ever so lightly, just to give them a totally polished look. We also used a fun, bright pink color since the rest of the makeup was so natural. With a smokey black liner & some AWESOME, thick & bold lashes the look is complete.
Enjoy these photos of this sweet couple. I feel like these photos really captured the love between these two, as well as each of their kind, genuine personalities. Photos by Affordable Wedding Photography of New Mexico.
Last week, my client, Candace, came in asking for a moderately smokey eye & a beautiful natural looking lip for her engagement photo session. In preparation for her loveliest day (her wedding is coming up in the winter of 2014), Candace wanted to try out a makeup look similar but subtler than the look she envisioned for her wedding. Because Candace already had gorgeous skin & loooooong, enviable eyelashes, I focused on giving her the iconic 'happy bride glow'. I used my favorite highlighter from Victoria Secret - the very subtle pinkish tone gave Candace the most youthful, 'lit from within' look. Lorac's Pro Palette also came in very handy for rimming her eyes in the shade "Pewter". Typically, I avoid lining the bottom lashes, but because we were working on an engagement session & not a wedding (where we risk the bride crying off all of the bottom eyeliner), I went for it! & let me tell ya, the bottom liner MADE THIS LOOK; it was the perfect final touch.

Aren't these photos gorgeous (& gee whiz, doesn't he look HAPPY? Maybe I should have called it the "happy groom glow" ;) )
We just adore this couple! Thank you Candace for allowing us to be a little part of your love story.

In the upcoming months I'll be presenting at a handful of different Bridal Shows & Expos & needed some updated head shots for marketing materials, handouts, business cards etc... I wanted to make sure everything was polished, pretty, & up-to-date so I sought out after some awesome new photos! The amazing Alicia Lucia Photography met me for a mini photo session. I am not usually the one in front of the camera so this was a fun new experience for me. Alicia has a great way of making the photo taking process easy & comfortable. Here are some of my favorite images from the session:
